When
Paul King passed away on April 2, 2010 biology teachers in Massachusetts and
around the country lost a good friend, leader, and mentor. Paul was a Biology
Teacher at Randolph High School from 1968 to 2001 and a Biology Teacher at
Massasoit Community College from 2004 to 2009.
He dedicated himself to his teaching and to the professional development
of teachers. He was involved in the
Biology West Biology Round Table and a founder of the Massachusetts Association
of Biology Teachers. He served in every
possible office at MABT and was greatly valued by his MABT colleagues for his
expertise, his patience, and his humor. In addition to his dedicated service to MABT,
he was very active in the National Association of Biology Teachers. He regularly attended the annual NABT
conference and derived great inspiration and joy from interacting with biology
teachers from across the country. To
honor his memory, the MABT will offer an annual award of $200 to help defray
the cost of an active MABT member attending the NABT for the first time. Preference will be given to candidates with a
record of service to professional teaching organizations.

This
award is designed to foster involvement in professional organizations including
MABT.
2.
To be eligible, applicants must teach life
sciences in Massachusetts.
3.
Applications are available at the Annual MABT
Conference, through the MABT Alert, or by contacting Margaret Carroll through this website.
4.
Applications and one recommendation must be
submitted by February 1st of each year and the winner will be announced at the annual
MABT conference.
5.
Applications will be reviewed and a winner
chosen by members of the MABT Board of Directors.
6.
All applicants will receive a complimentary one
year membership in the Massachusetts Association of Biology Teachers.
